Hey everyone!

We’re officially entering the final stretch of development, and we need your help dialing in the final gameplay, balance, and overall feel of Lethal Wedding!

We’re opening up sign-ups for closed playtesting over the next two months. Because spots are limited, we won't be able to select everyone who applies, but our Kickstarter backers will get top priority for available slots.

Play testers will be chosen based on a myriad of factors: availability, psychographic/demographic, and submission order. We will not be able to accommodate everyone for every type of play test; however, we want to make the game great and will do our best to fit in as many play testers as possible, one way or another.

For example, if we are out of slots for the moderated Live Playtesting, you'll have the opportunity to participate in async testing instead. If you have friends who would love to be involved, don't hesitate to share the form with them as well. After all, this is for the players, and we know the folks who supported us on Kickstarter who are bringing a new Sega Genesis/MD game to life almost certainly have friends who share that hobby and passion. 

Playtest Formats: Async or Live

When you apply, you can choose the testing style that fits your schedule best:

1. Async Playtesting (Play on Your Own Time)

• You’ll receive a test build to play at your own pace during a specified window.
• Complete the game/levels on your schedule and fill out our detailed feedback survey before the given deadline.

2. Live Playtesting (Google Meet Session)

• You’ll hop on a Google Meet call with members of our team and stream your gameplay live.
• Our moderators will observe your play session and ask a few questions about your experience during and after the run.

Further Details & Requirements

Before applying, please keep the following in mind:

• NDA Required: All selected playtesters must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before receiving playtest builds or call invites.
• Sessions Are Recorded: Live calls and feedback sessions will be recorded for internal development reports so the team can reference your playthrough.
• No Special Hardware Required: You do not need original Sega Genesis / Mega Drive hardware to participate since we’ll be providing Steam Keys.
• Timeline: We are scheduling all testing sessions across this month and the next as we finalize the game build.

• Bill Tiller Box Art Complete-in-Box: 100% Kickstarter Exclusive! Whether paired with a Standard or LE cartridge, CIBs featuring Bill Tiller's cover art are locked to this campaign and will not be sold on our website after pre-orders close.
   
• Standard & LE Carts: Standard copies and a limited supply of the Limited Edition maniacal clown cartridges will hit our website down the road after backer orders ship. However, all future website orders will not feature the exclusive Bill Tiller Box Art nor include the Bill Tiller Poster. See image below for reference!

In-Game Development Progress

The dev team has been hard at work tuning mechanics, smoothing out performance, and polishing gameplay based directly on playtester feedback. Here is a look at what we've been building:

Enemy Spawns & Combat Density

• More Action on Screen: We raised the active enemy limit to 6 or 7 on screen at once.
• Spawn Priority: To keep classic hardware running fast without hitting performance walls during packed fights, we implemented a spawn-priority system so combat stays intense and smooth.

Maps & Level Design

• Visual Polish: We’re fixing wall textures and layer-sorting glitches across the Mansion and Final Boss stages.
• Hedge Maze Level: We’re actively refining the layout, environment art, and visual effects for the Hedge Maze stage to make it stand out.

Performance & Co-Op Testing

• ROM Optimizations: Fitting everything into vintage cartridge limits came with a few quirky priority bugs (like background elements rendering over characters). We’ve been clearing those out, and recent 2-player co-op test runs are running great.

Weapon Balancing & Upgrades

• Balloon Animal Gun Upgrade: We reworked this weapon to include auto-aim, rebalanced its damage and ammo counts, and moved its first drop location so it feels much better to use early on.
• Respec Feature & Vows: We removed boring stat boosts (like +10% experience) that didn't feel rewarding. Instead, we're adding a full respec feature so you can reset your vows and reallocate upgrades to test out different builds.

Boss Feedback & Gameplay Adjustments

• Boss Health Indicators: We’re testing sprite-flashing during boss encounters so hitting bosses gives clear visual feedback.
• Environmental Interaction: We’re adding fun details like using the Acid Flower weapon to put out fires scattered through levels.
• Spanish Translation Pass: Notes from our Spanish playtesters came in, and updated text strings are being integrated.

When your survey arrives, it only takes a couple of minutes to finish up. Inside, you will be able to:

• Grab any add-ons you missed during the campaign rush, like the Fatman & Team Fat Deluxe OST CD, Vinyl LP, Bill Tiller Special Key Art poster (exclusive to those who order an LE), or extra game cartridges.

Important Note from BackerKit: If you backed the project using an Apple ID login or a private relay email address, survey emails frequently get lost or blocked by Apple's privacy filters.

The party isn't over yet! We are taking the next big step toward getting your physical cartridges, CDs, and retro gear manufactured and shipped. The BackerKit pledge manager is built, tested, and ready to go.

Before we open the reception doors to everyone all at once, we are running a quick Smoke Test today.

Think of it as a quick trial run before the main event. BackerKit sends survey emails to a random 5% of backers first. This lets us double-check that all the reward tiers, regional shipping math, and add-on options are working cleanly without any weird hiccups before we open the floodgates for the rest of the guests.

What Do You Need to Do?

• If you get an email today: You're in the initial test group! Please go ahead, fill out your survey, lock in your options, and let us know if anything looks strange. Your early feedback helps us make sure the rollout stays smooth for the rest of the community.
• If you DO NOT get an email today: Don't worry! You haven't been left off the guest list. As long as the test run goes smoothly, the remaining 95% of surveys will hit your inbox over the next 24 to 48 hours.
